About this video

Transitioning from the waiter sweep to taking the back from the single leg X position:

  1. Start in the single leg X position, pulling the opponent's knee in to lift their foot off the mat and scoop underneath, bringing their leg onto your shoulder. Maintain a tight pinch with your head and shoulder, keeping your knees together.
  2. If you're unable to execute the pendulum sweep due to the opponent's strong base, look for the opportunity to take the back instead.
  3. Lift with your left leg to create space, and hook your right foot onto the opponent's calf.
  4. Use your right hand to hold onto the opponent's side, providing an anchor as you move out the back door.
  5. Pull the opponent back into you with the hand on their back, bringing their butt to the mat.
  6. Secure the seatbelt grip before inserting the hooks. This allows you to maintain control and follow the opponent's movements.
  7. Once you have the seatbelt, insert your hooks to secure the back control.
  8. Ensure the bottom arm of the seatbelt is the top hand, and stay tight to the opponent's chest with your head close to their shoulder and neck, positioning yourself for a potential finish.
