About this video
Executing the basic single leg X-sweep involves several key details:
- Start by holding onto the pant leg with a palm-up grip, which provides a stronger hold and prevents the opponent from stepping back easily.
- Keep your hips elevated and knees pinched throughout the sweep.
- Use the outside of your foot to hit the back of the opponent's leg while simultaneously lifting your hips and moving to your left to bring them down to the mat.
- After completing the sweep, you have the option to go for a straight ankle lock or to come up on top.
- When coming up, control both pant legs to prevent the opponent from establishing their guard and to dictate the pace of the match.
- As you rise to the top position, immediately think about the passes you will execute to stay a step ahead and prevent the opponent from settling into their guard.
Remember to maintain a strong grip on the pant leg with a palm-up grip and to use the outside of your foot to prevent the opponent from stepping back. This will make it difficult for them to break your grip and defend against the sweep. Once you bring them down, quickly transition to controlling their pant legs and establish your passing game.
