About this video
Counter the X-Guard pass by transitioning to Single Leg X and executing a sweep:
- Maintain tight control with your feet in the X-Guard. If the opponent breaks the top hook and steps over, do not panic.
- Immediately follow the opponent's movement as they step out. Your bottom hook should make contact with their leg again.
- Circle towards the opponent, shooting your legs up to transition into the Single Leg X position.
- Instead of keeping the underhook, wrap your arm over the opponent's leg to secure the position.
- Prepare for the basic Single Leg X sweep by reaching for the opponent's pant leg with a palm-up grip.
- Push against their far leg with your foot, hip out, and bring them down to the mat.
- Gain control of both pant legs and bring your feet underneath you to come up on top, completing the sweep.
- If the opponent steps over your guard, follow with your foot and rotate back into them, squaring up to reestablish Single Leg X.
- Lock the legs first, then adjust your arm to the proper Single Leg X overhook position.
- For the sweep, control the pant leg if possible. If it's too far, use your foot to strike the opponent's back leg, causing them to fall.
- Switch your grip to hold the pant leg, bring your feet under you, and proceed to pass the guard after completing the sweep.
