About this video
Transitioning from the single leg X position to a toe hold submission involves several key steps:
- Begin by extending the opponent out from the single leg X to prevent their foot from being flat on the mat, which would negate the opportunity for a toe hold.
- Unlock the legs and transition into an X-Guard-like position, maintaining an overhook on the opponent's leg while extending them out.
- With the right hand, push the back of the opponent's knee down towards the hip, lifting their foot off the mat to create an opening for the toe hold.
- Grab the opponent's toes with the left hand, ensuring the thumb and pointer finger clasp over the knuckles of the foot for a secure grip.
- Lock up the figure-four toe hold by grabbing your own wrist with the other hand.
- Reposition the feet back into the single leg X, using the legs to drive and apply pressure, turning the foot up to secure the submission.
It's important to keep the feet flexed during the process to prevent the opponent from stepping up and escaping. The grip on the toes should be precise, neither too high nor too low, focusing on the knuckles of the foot for maximum control.
