About this video

Transitioning to the full X-Guard, the focus is on maintaining tight control and executing a basic sweep to bring the opponent down to their back, immediately transitioning into a passing position.

  1. Start in the X-Guard with flexed feet, pinching the opponent's leg to prevent them from pushing down and stepping out.
  2. Control the opponent's leg above the knee with an outward turned hand, and use your head, neck, and shoulder to pinch the lower part of their leg.
  3. To initiate the sweep, extend the opponent out by kicking your legs.
  4. Continue to turn your left wrist out, slide the bottom hook down to the opponent's ankle, and push on their knee with your right hand.
  5. Kick your right foot up to lift the opponent, and simultaneously reach for their pant leg with your right hand.
  6. Get your feet underneath you and come up on top, immediately looking to pass the guard without settling.
  7. Options for passing include cutting the knee, leg drags, or other passes you feel comfortable with, but the emphasis is on applying pressure right away and not allowing the opponent to settle into their guard.

Throughout the technique, the importance of tight control and immediate pressure upon achieving the top position is emphasized to prevent the opponent from getting comfortable and countering.
