About this video
Executing an overhead sweep when the opponent grips your collar in single leg X guard:
- Start in single leg X guard with control over one of your opponent's legs, but they grip your collar, anchoring their weight and preventing a backward sweep.
- Use your right hand to feed your opponent's sleeve to your left hand, which should make a pistol grip.
- Switch your hooks: move your right foot from the opponent's hamstring to their opposite hamstring, and replace it with your left foot on the back of their leg.
- Reach your right hand to the back of your opponent's collar and pull them down to break their posture.
- Kick out slightly with your legs to push your opponent back, prompting them to close the distance again.
- As they come forward, load their weight onto your legs and use their momentum to kick up and roll them overhead.
- Follow through by rolling with your opponent and coming up on top in a dominant position, ready to knee cut or force half guard for a pass.
It's important to control the opponent's sleeve and collar to break their posture, and use their momentum against them for the sweep. Once on top, close the gap quickly to secure a dominant position and initiate your passing sequence.
