About this video

Transitioning between Single Leg X and X-Guard involves a focus on foot placement and maintaining tight control. Begin in Single Leg X, ensuring everything is tight. To transition to X-Guard:

  1. Lead with your feet to form the X position.
  2. Kick out slightly and grab the back of the opponent's knee to pull it in.
  3. Secure an underhook and establish the X-Guard position.

To return to Single Leg X:

  1. Again, lead with your feet.
  2. Slide back under and obtain the overhook to reestablish Single Leg X.

Practice this drill slowly at first, focusing on the details and ensuring each transition becomes tighter. As comfort with the movements increases, the speed can be increased. Key points to remember:

  1. Keep hips elevated throughout the transitions.
  2. Maintain proper foot placement to avoid a lag in transitions.
  3. Ensure transitions are seamless, moving directly from one position to the other without unnecessary movement.

Once comfortable, practice switching sides, maintaining the same principles of tight control and precise footwork.
