About this video
Transitioning to a back take from the X-Guard:
- Maintain tight control in the X-Guard, with feet flexed around the opponent's leg and using the arm, head, neck, and shoulder to control the lower part of their opposite leg.
- Extend the legs to widen the opponent's base and shift their weight onto one leg, ideally lifting the other leg off the mat or at least lightening it.
- Underhook the opponent's leg with the right hand and secure a grip on your own wrist, similar to a Kimura grip.
- As you extend your legs, pass the opponent's leg over your head to the opposite side.
- Place your right foot behind the opponent's right knee and square up with them.
- Grab the back of the opponent's gi or belt, pull them towards you, and then kick out to off-balance them.
- Keep your feet flexed to prevent the opponent from easily kicking out and escaping.
- Secure the seatbelt grip (hand over hand) and work to get both hooks in.
- Once hooks are in, you are in a strong position to finish with a submission.
