About this video
Transitioning to a back-take from the De La Riva guard involves controlling both pant legs and neutralizing the De La Riva hook by pushing down the inside of the knee, straightening the leg, and turning the knee out. Focus then shifts to the opposite leg, stepping forward and switching grips to initiate a leg drag, dropping the knee to the mat while securing a grip on the collar, keeping the knee tight to the opponent's hip.
Instead of going over the opponent's shoulder, insert four fingers under and into the back of their collar, ensuring the grip is centered. Lift slightly and use the entire arm to push the opponent's shoulder across to the opposite side, then immediately drop weight down to prevent them from recovering position. Circle to the side, and if the opponent remains on their side, establish a seatbelt grip and keep the chest low, driving into their back to turn them away.
Slide the left leg along the opponent's back, keeping it flat on the mat and tight to their body. Step the right foot over, sliding the heel to the opponent's hip. Fall back to the right shoulder to facilitate the insertion of the second hook or a body triangle. Establish the position and then secure the hooks for competition points.
When applying the seatbelt grip, ensure the bottom hand grips over the top, with the choking arm underneath. This configuration allows for an immediate choke attempt if the opponent strips the top grip. Maintain tight control and be prepared to transition to the submission once the position is secure.
