About this video

Counter the leg lasso from Reverse De La Riva and transition to leg drag:

  1. When the opponent applies a leg lasso, immediately circle your hand out to prevent it from getting tight. Your palm should face the opponent as you grip near their knee.
  2. Place your left hand on the opponent's collar to control their upper body.
  3. Drop your elbow below the opponent's arm and back step away, pushing their leg down to the mat to pin it.
  4. As you push the leg down, come up and start spinning to the side to enter the leg drag position.
  5. Keep your knee close to the opponent's hip and control their belt or back with your hand. Keep your elbow low and your head down to maintain control.
  6. Lean your weight into the side where you have the leg drag to prevent the opponent from escaping their leg.
  7. Ensure your knee is on the mat and not raised, to stop the opponent from freeing their leg.
  8. Maintain tightness by keeping the opponent's knee close to their hip, preventing them from scooting out.
  9. From this position, you can progress to a pass, submission, or take the back, depending on what you feel comfortable with.
