About this video
Defending against the leg lasso involves a specific drill to prevent the opponent from establishing a strong grip. When the opponent applies a lasso, the goal is to practice removing it and immediately positioning the hand to counter their transition to spider guard.
- As the opponent initiates the lasso, work on bringing the hand out to prevent a strong grip.
- When the opponent switches from the lasso to spider guard, bring the hand back in to maintain inside control.
- By keeping the hand on the inside against spider guard and on the outside against the lasso, the opponent's grip strength is compromised, reducing the effectiveness of their attacks.
- Drill the transition between inside and outside hand positioning by circling the hand: inside, outside, inside, outside.
- Practice this drill on both sides, aiming for 10 repetitions each or for a set duration, ensuring the hand never gets trapped in the lasso or hangs in the spider guard.
- Challenge yourself and your partner to see how many transitions can be completed within a certain time frame, always focusing on proper hand placement.
Consistent practice of this drill will make it difficult for the opponent to launch effective attacks, regardless of whether they maintain the grip or not.
