About this video

Passing the Reverse De La Riva guard when facing a knee shield involves a series of steps to break the opponent's defensive angle and secure a leg drag position.

  1. Start by controlling the opponent's collar with your left hand. The opponent will try to maintain a knee shield with a 45-degree angle for optimal defense.
  2. Use an arm weave pass by going under the opponent's top leg and gripping the quad of the bottom leg.
  3. Apply shoulder pressure to collapse the opponent's leg and disrupt the 45-degree angle of the knee shield.
  4. Lift your hips slightly to allow your knee to cut across below the opponent's knee. It's important to maintain pressure and not fully alleviate it when lifting the hips.
  5. Turn your knee inwards and cut out, positioning yourself on all fours with one hand pinning the opponent's shoulder and the other controlling the legs.
  6. Slide your right shin across the opponent's top leg in a quick motion, then windshield wiper across to transition into the leg drag position.
  7. Secure the leg drag by making two grips on the opponent, one on the hip and the other on the belt or bicep, preparing to pass the guard.

This technique effectively breaks the opponent's knee shield and transitions into a dominant leg drag position, setting up opportunities to pass the guard or advance to more advantageous positions.
