About this video
Counteracting a tight leg lasso from the Reverse De La Riva position involves several steps to secure a leg drag pass:
- When the opponent locks in a tight lasso with their shin on your armpit and your hand trapped, anchor yourself by gripping their belt or collar.
- Apply pressure downwards to break the lasso hook by lifting your weight and pushing the Reverse De La Riva hook down with your shoulder.
- Adjust your position to prevent the opponent from flexing their foot on your back, making it harder for them to maintain the lasso.
- Circle to your right, aiming to break the lasso hook by repeatedly pushing your shoulder down on their leg.
- Once the lasso is broken, drive your left knee into the mat to secure the leg drag position, ensuring the knee hits the mat to prevent the opponent from escaping.
- With your left hand, grip the opponent's collar and drop your elbow to solidify control.
- To free your trapped hand, post on the opponent's quad with your left hand and use their leg as leverage to pull your hand up and break their grip.
- Once the grip is broken, slide back into the leg drag position, ready to pass the guard or take the back.
These steps help you transition from being trapped in a leg lasso to establishing a dominant leg drag position.
