About this video

Drill for practicing transitions into Reverse De La Riva (RDLR):

  1. Start on top with both hands controlling the sides, keeping elbows in to prevent arm attacks.
  2. Maintain a low base and practice moving side to side to force the RDLR position.
  3. When moving to the left, post the hand on the knee, push down, slide the leg to the side, and enter the RDLR position.
  4. Allow the opponent to get the hook or continue to push down, then switch hands and repeat on the opposite side.
  5. Alternate sides at a slow pace initially to get accustomed to the leg burn and to build muscle memory.
  6. Once comfortable, increase the speed of the drill, focusing on staying low and smoothly transitioning into RDLR.
  7. The goal is to develop an automatic response to stay low during training and competition without the need to raise posture.

This drill helps build endurance for the leg muscles and ingrains the habit of maintaining a low base while entering the RDLR guard.
