About this video
Entering a basic leg drag position from De La Riva guard:
- Start by controlling both pant legs of your opponent.
- Post on the inside of the opponent's knee and straighten your leg to break the De La Riva hook, turning your knee outwards.
- Transfer your grip from the pant leg to the opponent's ankle with one hand, and post just above the knee with the other hand.
- Step forward slightly to close the distance and slap the opponent's ankle across while dragging their leg across your body to your hip.
- Ensure the opponent's leg is tight to your hip to limit their movement and maintain control.
- Drive your knee to the mat, control the opponent's collar with your right hand, and turn your elbow in to pinch it against their leg.
- Keep your opposite knee turned in, pressing against the opponent's hip or butt to prevent them from scooting out.
- For the pass, reach under the opponent's head with your left hand and grip their shoulder.
- Perform a slight back step with your left knee pressing into the opponent's hip to maintain pressure.
- Before coming up to your knees, switch your right hand from the collar to the opponent's hip to maintain control.
- Come up to your knees, staying on your toes for mobility, and pull the opponent's shoulder in tight to secure the pass.
Throughout the technique, focus on keeping tight control and minimizing space to prevent the opponent from regaining their guard.
