About this video

Passing the De La Riva guard involves controlling the opponent's leg and using your knee and toes for additional control. Follow these steps:

  1. Begin by controlling the leg that is hooking in the De La Riva position.
  2. Place your knee between the opponent's legs to jam their movement.
  3. Use the toes of your other leg to control their free leg, effectively trapping the De La Riva hook.
  4. Grab the opponent's foot and swing your leg over theirs to establish control over their lower body.
  5. With one leg, maintain control of the opponent's downed leg and secure their hip.
  6. Reach for the opponent's foot, squeeze your knees together, and sit back to apply pressure.
  7. If the opponent enters De La Riva again, control their foot and jump inside their legs with your knee.
  8. Use your toes to maintain control of their leg, ensuring tightness to prevent their escape.
  9. Grab their leg, push it down, and transition to an attack by placing your foot on their hip.
  10. While on your hip, squeeze down on the opponent's leg, pull it up, and go for the finish.
