About this video

Establishing control in the single leg position involves gripping one leg and using both hooks to control the other leg. Squeeze the opponent's hip with one hook while controlling their thigh and knee with the other.

  1. Execute a push-pull action by pushing the opponent's hip with one foot and pulling their leg with the other.
  2. Transition into position and immediately reach to gain better control of the opponent's other leg.
  3. Shoot the leg through or place it on the hip to transition into a single X-Guard position, aiming for a submission.
  4. Ensure the controlling foot is positioned with the toes gripping, not flat, to prevent the opponent from pushing it away and escaping.
  5. Trap the opponent's hip with the toes and maintain the same control on the other leg.
  6. After establishing the push-pull dynamic and gaining control, reach and trap the opponent's arm immediately.
  7. Complete the transition by shooting the leg through for the submission attempt.
