About this video
Escaping a foot lock in the 50/50 guard involves a transition to protect your leg and apply pressure to your opponent:
- When you're unable to finish a foot lock from the 50/50 guard and your opponent counters, place your toes on their hip.
- Shift your weight from one hip to the other and bring your knee down to the mat, being cautious of heel hooks if they are allowed in your rule set.
- To increase pressure and safeguard your leg, place your foot on your opponent's heel, mirroring their position.
- Ensure you're on your hip, squeezing your knees together for control.
- If your initial attack isn't successful and you need to defend your foot, post your toes on their hip.
- Push off to switch hips and rotate your opponent's belly towards the mat.
- Immediately stack one foot on top of the other, get a better angle on your hip, squeeze your knees, and finish the lock.
