About this video
Setting up and finishing the straight ankle lock and heel hook involves maintaining tightness and control. Use the part of the opponent's leg and the corresponding part of your hand to establish a firm grip.
- Keep your legs tight and grab the opponent's leg, using the part of their leg and the part of your hand to control.
- Use your grip as a shield against heel hooks or ankle attacks by creating distance when the opponent attempts these submissions.
- When the opponent ceases their attack, quickly transition to your shoulder to improve your posture for the finish.
- Ensure your grip is tight, making one muscle with your hand and back, and place your elbow inside to connect with your ribs.
- Arch your back to secure the finish, keeping your position tight and attacking the specific part of the opponent's leg.
- Be vigilant about protecting your own heel from heel hooks or toe holds by using your grip to push and create distance when the opponent reaches to attack.
- Push and immediately move to a better position, giving yourself additional space and time to arch your back and achieve the submission.
