About this video
Transitioning to a footlock from the butterfly guard when the opponent lifts their leg:
- While in the butterfly position, if the opponent lifts their leg to prevent a previous attack, immediately adapt by controlling their lifted leg.
- Lift the opponent's leg and shoot your own leg through underneath it, pulling their leg towards you to lock in a triangle with your legs.
- With the triangle locked, you now have substantial control. Rotate your hips towards the direction of the trapped leg and shoot your hips over.
- Begin to control the opponent's hip with one hand while your other leg goes on their hip to connect and set up the finishing position.
- With the opponent's leg trapped by your triangle, they have limited mobility. Use your foot to maintain control over their body.
- From this position, you can proceed to finish the footlock, as the opponent's leg is secured and their ability to escape is greatly diminished.
