About this video
Adjusting the footlock for taller opponents with long legs or strong resistance involves two alternative finishing methods:
- To target the Achilles more effectively, push yourself up from the initial position and adjust your grip lower down towards the Achilles tendon. Then, start pulling to apply the submission.
- If the opponent tries to protect by straightening their toes, preventing you from going back, reach over and trap their entire foot. Use your biceps and ribs to create pressure on the foot while simultaneously attacking the Achilles. This creates a dual attack scenario.
- For the first method, if you find yourself too high on the leg, use your other foot to push your hips away and slide down to a better position that focuses on the Achilles for the standard finish.
- In the second method, when the opponent blocks your shoulder with their toe, reach over their foot, lift it, and squeeze with your biceps and ribs to secure the submission.
Both methods provide a means to effectively attack the footlock against taller opponents or when facing strong defensive measures.
