About this video
Executing a triangle setup from Spider Guard:
- Start in Spider Guard with a shallow lasso or just the leg outside, maintaining grips on both sleeves.
- Extend one leg and initiate a sweep motion, swinging the leg to create momentum.
- For those new to Spider Guard, emphasize getting a good pendulum swing to bring the leg all the way through.
- As you sweep, hook the opponent's hip with your foot and extend the other foot on their bicep or elbow crease to off-balance them onto the mat.
- Expect the opponent to base with their free hand to prevent the sweep. If they don't base, you can proceed to get on top.
- Attempt to sweep further, causing the opponent to base more heavily. Then, bend your knee and pull their elbow to create an opening for the triangle.
- As the gap opens, release your leg, shoot both legs up, and lock the triangle around their neck and arm.
- Lift your hips and adjust by pulling the opponent's head across if necessary, then control your shin to secure the triangle choke.
This technique baits the opponent into a triangle during a sweep attempt from Spider Guard, utilizing leg movement and grips for effective execution.
