About this video

Transitioning from half guard to an inverted triangle when the opponent hides their arm:

  1. When the opponent hides their arm to prevent an overhook, they typically won't apply pressure as they need their hand to control your back.
  2. Instead of reaching directly for a Kimura, which exposes your back, use your shin to create space and cup their tricep to bend their arm slightly.
  3. Push with your shin to off-balance them, then escape your leg over their head and place your foot on their hip to prevent them from taking your back.
  4. Switch to a Kimura grip while your foot on the hip stops the opponent from circling to your back.
  5. Create space with your foot on the hip to free your other leg, then shoot it through and hook their armpit with your heel.
  6. Remove your foot from the hip, bring it back over, and lock your legs to form the inverted triangle.
  7. Adjust the triangle by scooting your hips and knee to the mat to tighten the choke.
  8. Finish the submission by squeezing your legs, or for added pressure, come up, wrap your arms around their body, and pull them towards you.
  9. To ensure a tight choke, open your knee and hip to push their shoulder into their neck when locking the triangle.

Remember to make small adjustments to the position of your hips and knee to maximize the effectiveness of the inverted triangle choke.
