About this video

The Rolling Omoplata technique is a momentum-based submission that can be used when your opponent is in the crucifix position and trying to hold on by grabbing their inner thigh. This technique should be used with caution, especially against less experienced opponents, as it can potentially cause shoulder injuries.

  1. Start in the crucifix position. Your opponent will likely try to hold on by grabbing their inner thigh.
  2. Release the sling and shift everything to your body side. This is to prevent rolling over your opponent's neck, which could cause injury.
  3. Perform a shoulder roll over your body side shoulder. This is more of a forward roll than a diagonal shoulder roll.
  4. As you roll, maintain control of your opponent's arms to prevent them from escaping. If they don't roll with you, they could end up in a vulnerable position for a Kimura or Omoplata.
  5. After the roll, both you and your opponent should be sitting up and facing the same direction. Place one arm over your opponent's body for control and to prevent them from turning over.
  6. Transition into a normal Omoplata position. Grab their pants and scoot back until you achieve a 90-degree angle.
  7. To finish the submission, lift your hips off the ground, tilt your body forward, and kick back with your leg.
