About this video
Transitioning from a forward rolling omoplata to a north-south choke:
- From the omoplata position, grab onto the opponent's arm to control it.
- Wrap the other arm around the opponent's head.
- Lift and extend the leg that was in the omoplata position.
- As you lift and extend, punch down with the hand to prevent the opponent from grabbing your head.
- Back away and push the opponent's face towards the other side.
- Switch the position of your leg to get into the north-south position.
- Ensure that your chin is past the opponent's shoulder line.
- Move back until you can grab your hands in a ten fingers grip.
- Flex for the choke. The ten fingers grip is achieved by turning your palm from down to thumb up.
Alternative finish if the opponent is not tapping:
- From the north-south position, push away as far as possible.
- Change from a straight north-south to a 45 degree angle north-south.
- Apply pressure for the choke. Note that this variation may not be legal in some competitions as it can be considered a neck crank.
