About this video

Transitioning from a forward rolling omoplata to a north-south choke:

  1. From the omoplata position, grab onto the opponent's arm to control it.
  2. Wrap the other arm around the opponent's head.
  3. Lift and extend the leg that was in the omoplata position.
  4. As you lift and extend, punch down with the hand to prevent the opponent from grabbing your head.
  5. Back away and push the opponent's face towards the other side.
  6. Switch the position of your leg to get into the north-south position.
  7. Ensure that your chin is past the opponent's shoulder line.
  8. Move back until you can grab your hands in a ten fingers grip.
  9. Flex for the choke. The ten fingers grip is achieved by turning your palm from down to thumb up.

Alternative finish if the opponent is not tapping:

  1. From the north-south position, push away as far as possible.
  2. Change from a straight north-south to a 45 degree angle north-south.
  3. Apply pressure for the choke. Note that this variation may not be legal in some competitions as it can be considered a neck crank.
