About this video

Entering the crucifix position from the top:

  1. Start by opening your opponent's guard and grabbing their collar. If your opponent has a thick neck or is resistant to chokes, you can cup your hand into the crook of their neck and open them up, causing them to drive forward.
  2. With your hand cupped and your arm straightened, lock out your elbow to lift your opponent's head off the ground while they're posed on their elbow.
  3. Take your top leg and place it where your hand created an opening. Drag your opponent's arm into the crucifix position.
  4. If your opponent's arm is on top of your top leg, you need to move it to your bottom leg. Kick back your top leg and make sure it's lower than your other leg, causing your opponent's arm to drop to the other side.
  5. From this position, there are many setups you can execute. One option is the arm sling: put your hand through the opening you created, cut behind your opponent's tricep or elbow, and open them up.
  6. If your opponent is hiding their arm and you can't get into the crook of their elbow, you can grab their wrist and open them up that way, which can be more painful for them.
  7. Finally, step over with your top leg, kick back, and drive your opponent's arm from one leg to the other by kicking up and dropping the arm to the other side.
