About this video
Transitioning from Reverse De La Riva to 50/50 guard can be an effective strategy for sweeping, especially when needing points towards the end of a match. The 50/50 guard, while sometimes seen as a stalling position, can be utilized offensively.
- Start in Reverse De La Riva with a foot flexed against the opponent's leg to control distance, and the other foot on their shoulder or hip.
- Hook underneath with the right arm and post the hand on the opponent's chest to maintain distance.
- Spin underneath while grabbing the opponent's hamstring to aid momentum.
- If the opponent leans back to prevent a back take, hook your leg behind theirs.
- Kick your right leg through and retract your left leg to lock into the 50/50 position.
- Ensure the opponent's leg is across your hip and not to the side to avoid a leg drag.
- If the opponent tries to move their leg over, lift your hips and tuck their ankle under your armpit.
- From the 50/50, sit up and sweep by turning your hips and off-balancing the opponent, potentially using a hook.
It's crucial to keep the opponent's leg across your hip in the 50/50 to prevent them from passing and to set up sweeps or back takes.
