About this video

Transitioning into a leg drag from the berimbolo involves a similar setup to taking the back but with a different execution to end up on top, aiming for a guard pass. Begin by establishing grips on the belt and ankle, bringing the opponent down to their butt while extending your legs close to their hips. Spin the knee and reach across, bringing your knee to the back of their knee to create space.

  1. Instead of pushing, bring your shin to the back of the opponent's knee.
  2. Control the opponent's hip with your left hand, using the belt, skirt of the gi, or gi pants for grip.
  3. Bring your elbow down to pin the opponent's hip, driving forward to stabilize their hip.
  4. Reach for the opponent's collar with your right hand and bring your head to the side where your knee is on the mat.
  5. Pull the opponent towards you, spinning underneath, and reach across with your knee behind theirs, driving your knee forward.
  6. Wrap your left arm around and grip the opponent's belt, clamping over their leg.
  7. Post up and drive towards the side where your knee is on the mat, keeping your other knee on their hip to prevent escape.
  8. Maintain pressure with your forearm across the opponent's hip and stomach.
  9. Once you have enough pressure, grip the back of their collar with your right hand and the front with your left.
  10. Drive your elbow down on their quad, pinching their leg between your hip and elbow.
  11. Bring your head to the same side as the leg drag, forcing the opponent to turn their head the opposite way.
  12. With the opponent's head and body facing different directions, they are significantly immobilized, putting you in a strong position to pass.

This technique emphasizes control of the opponent's hip and the importance of grip and pressure to successfully transition into a leg drag position and prepare for a guard pass.
