About this video

Initiating the berimbolo begins with controlling the opponent's belt and ankle, but this alone may not be sufficient against larger or skilled opponents. Instead, varying grips such as the collar and sleeve, combined with foot placement on the bicep, are recommended to break the opponent's posture and create openings for the berimbolo.

  1. Secure a grip on the front of the opponent's belt to prevent them from establishing good posture and to facilitate the berimbolo.
  2. Pull the opponent slightly towards you to off-balance them, rather than trying to pull them directly to the side.
  3. Use a kicking motion to bring the opponent down to their butt while extending your legs and keeping your feet flexed to maintain control.
  4. As you spin underneath, keep your head close to the opponent's hip to ensure you are not too far away, which would make the technique less effective.
  5. Reach across and control the opponent's hip instead of their ankle to increase the likelihood of getting to their back directly.
  6. Pull the opponent down and across to expose their back, maintaining contact with their hips and legs throughout the movement to prevent them from escaping.
  7. If you end up too low on the opponent's back, use the back of their collar to pull yourself up to a chest-to-chest position, aligning your shoulders with theirs.
  8. Finally, secure the seatbelt grip and establish your hooks to complete the back control and score points.

Throughout the technique, maintaining contact and control is crucial to prevent the opponent from creating space and escaping, ensuring a successful transition to the back.
