About this video

Establishing the correct grips is crucial for executing a successful berimbolo. The common misconception is that the spinning part is the most challenging, but in reality, bringing the opponent down to their butt is the hardest step. To prevent the opponent from maintaining good posture and making their grips, control their sleeves or collar, and use your foot on their bicep to break their posture. This control distracts the opponent and prevents them from preparing for the berimbolo.

When ready to initiate the berimbolo, grab the front of the opponent's belt and place your foot on their hip. Avoid stepping on the mat as it leaves you vulnerable to passes. Instead, pull the opponent slightly towards you to off-balance them, then kick out to the side, extending your legs. As you bring them down, shoot both feet across to their far hip, maintaining contact with their hips and legs throughout the movement. This constant contact is essential for an effective berimbolo and to prevent the opponent from escaping or countering.
