About this video
Transitioning from De La Riva to an ankle pick sweep leading to a leg drag position involves a series of steps:
- Control the opponent's sleeve and cross collar, then extend slightly to the right, forcing their hand to post on the mat.
- As you sit up, if the opponent's leg is extended, release the collar and grab their ankle.
- Post your left hand on the mat and take a short step back to create space for the takedown.
- Reach across the opponent's leg, driving forward to bring them to the mat.
- Immediately look for a leg drag by bringing the opponent's leg across as you come up on top, applying pressure and staying tight.
- Always aim to transition into an advantageous position post-sweep, avoiding the opponent's guard and setting up a pass.
- If you can't establish a perfect leg drag, ensure both of the opponent's legs are on one side and you have good control to begin your pass.
Executing this technique smoothly transitions from a sweep to a strong passing position, minimizing the opponent's opportunities to regain guard or counter-attack.
