About this video
Transitioning from De La Riva to a low single leg takedown:
- Start with a De La Riva hook using your left foot and place your right foot on the opponent's hip or quad.
- Turn your knee in slightly to force the opponent's knee to turn in as well, making it harder for them to break the De La Riva hook.
- Extend your right foot against the opponent's hip and sit up in one motion.
- Place your left hand on the mat while your right hand hooks around the opponent's leg.
- Quickly lift your buttocks off the mat and kick your left leg back to initiate the takedown.
- Maintain control of the leg and immediately look to drag it across into a leg drag position.
- Upon completing the sweep, don't settle. Immediately look to pass the guard and move into an advantageous position.
- Practice coming up on top and immediately attacking with a pass, such as a knee cut or leg drag, to avoid a neutral game and score more points.
