About this video

Counter the lack of momentum in the original Berimbolo with a leg variation to take the back more effectively. Begin by establishing grips on the front of the belt and the ankle. Pull the opponent towards you while kicking out to your left to bring their butt to the mat. As you start spinning underneath, instead of taking the back directly, create space by bringing your right knee to the back of their knee. Insert your left foot on their calf to maintain distance.

  1. Bring your hips closer to the opponent and scoop your leg around, placing your right shin behind their knee.
  2. Use your left leg as a pendulum or step on your other foot that is trapping their leg to generate momentum and expose their back.
  3. Secure the back position by going chest to back with a seatbelt grip, inserting one hook, followed by the second hook, and keeping your head close to theirs to minimize space and prevent their movement.
  4. Maintain tight control throughout the transition, emphasizing the importance of not allowing any space for the opponent to escape or counter.
  5. Once in back control, ensure you have the four points secured and are ready to attempt a submission finish.

Throughout the technique, focus on foot placement and hip movement to facilitate the Berimbolo transition. Keep your feet flexed for better control and avoid crossing your feet to prevent potential calf crush scenarios. Always stay tight to your opponent to maximize control and minimize their opportunities to escape.
