• ▸ The 2020 IBJJF Pan Championship ran from October 8 to 12 at the Silver Spurs Arena in Orlando, FL, held under pandemic restrictions with no spectators, mandatory face coverings, and competitors allowed into the venue only on their competition day. Despite the limits, it drew top adult black belts across 50 recorded matchups.
• ▸ Of the 50 recorded matchups, points decided 20 of them and submissions 16, for a submission rate of 32 percent. That is a reminder that at this level plenty of matches come down to positional scoring rather than a finish.

• ▸ Max Gimenis and Luiz Panza both showed a finishing edge, each closing out 2 of their wins by submission. Gimenis took 3 wins total on record here while Panza took 2, both with every recorded submission coming from that pace.
• ▸ Ronaldo Junior had two very different paths to victory: an 8 to 2 advantage decision from 0x0 over Felipe Cesar Silva in the Quarter-Final, then a 15 to 2 points blowout of Lucas Valente in the Semi-Final. A good example of grinding out a tight one before opening up in the next round.
