His father, Raul "Gacho" Jimenez, an experienced Thai boxing practitioner, introduced Roberto to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age four. In 2010, when Roberto was ten, the Jimenez family relocated back to the United States, settling in Texas. Initially speaking little English and primarily fluent in Spanish, Roberto faced bullying and language barriers at school. He turned to jiu-jitsu as a means of self-defense, confidence-building, and personal empowerment.
