About this video

Transition from spider guard to X-Guard involves the following steps:

  1. Maintain the extended leg on the bicep while planting the other foot on the mat.
  2. Bring the opponent forward, either by pulling them or allowing them to step over.
  3. Switch the hand from the sleeve to the opponent's leg.
  4. Place your leg behind the opponent's leg and shape their hip with your foot.
  5. Hook the back of the opponent's knee with your leg to establish the X-Guard.
  6. Keep control of the sleeve to guide the opponent's hands to the mat, forcing them to post.
  7. As the opponent posts and their knee drops to your chest, push them in the direction where they have no post.
  8. Extend your legs and roll over your shoulder to complete the sweep and come up on top.

It's important to pull the opponent forward, secure the foot on the hip, and the other behind the knee. When their weight shifts forward and they post on their hands, execute the roll over the shoulder for the sweep.
