About this video
Executing a back take when an opponent is prepared for a berimbolo:
- Initiate the berimbolo, placing your knee and hand on the mat, but only secure the tricep instead of the arm due to the opponent's defensive posture.
- Work the pass by bringing your buttocks to the mat, keeping the opponent's hips pinned to prevent them from turning away and recovering guard.
- Grab the back of the opponent's collar and their lapel to control their movement and prepare for a back take.
- Anticipate the opponent's attempt to turn away and use this momentum to switch your hips and follow through.
- As the opponent turns, attach your knee to their hip and slide your bottom hook in.
- Pull the opponent back to you, securing the hand over for a seatbelt grip with the arm under their arm, and then establish the top hook.
- Maintain a light weight distribution, keeping your shin in contact with the opponent's hip without applying pressure, to disguise your intention for the back take.
- As the opponent attempts to turn again, use your elbow to balance your weight, pull them back into you, and glue your chest to their back.
- Secure the seatbelt grip, lock it in with the underhook, and then place the second hook to complete the back take.
