About this video
Transitioning from a double ankle sweep to a back take when the opponent hides their arm:
- Start with feet on the biceps, exchange hips, and extend to initiate the sweep.
- If the opponent defends by hiding an arm, grab their ankle and post back.
- Grab the collar with the other hand. Without the ability to capture the arm quickly, pull the opponent towards you and drive your hip to the side.
- Use momentum to swing behind the opponent, ensuring your leg is pushing from behind to secure the position.
- Immediately lock up the legs and establish a seatbelt grip: one hand over the opponent's shoulder to their chest and the other over their arm to protect the choking hand.
- Grab the opponent's sleeve and pull them over as you swing yourself into position.
- Start securing the seatbelt grip while bringing your leg over and locking up your hands simultaneously.
- In an IBJJF tournament setting, ensure your feet are unlocked to secure points for the back take. Hold the position for three seconds to score, then you can return to a figure-four lock if desired.
