About this video
Executing a Monoplata when the opponent uses their knee to bump forward in half guard:
- Start with the Angry Bird position, but as you attempt the back step and your opponent underhooks and bumps you forward, place your knee on the mat.
- Rotate your hips, faking a sweep to make your opponent think they can come on top.
- Secure the opponent's tricep, switch your hips, and free your leg to step back, continuing to bait the opponent into thinking they can come up.
- If the opponent takes the bait, take a big step to position your shin over their arm, keeping your foot near their hips to prevent half guard.
- Ensure your other leg is at a 90-degree angle on the mat, similar to a lunge, to transition into an omoplata.
- Shift your weight to trap the opponent's arm and prepare for attacks from the omoplata position.
- Post your hand on the mat and swing your leg over the opponent's neck as you sit down, pointing your knee to the ceiling to secure the position.
- Pinch your elbow towards your ribs to maintain control of the opponent's arm.
- Adjust your position to find the opponent's elbow with your inner thigh, ensuring a tight fit.
- Place your hand on the outside of your knee and pull in while rotating your body over your shoulder to apply the submission.
- If the opponent is flexible and the submission is not effective, you have the option to rotate the other way to finish the submission.
