About this video
The Flamingo Dive to Angry Bird is a dynamic passing sequence designed to counter the Reverse De La Riva guard. The technique involves bringing the knee to the chest and the heel to the buttocks to prevent the opponent from establishing the Reverse De La Riva hook. The movement is executed quickly to prevent the opponent from playing their game.
- Start with the knee close to the chest to avoid exaggeration and maintain a strong base.
- Make a large step forward, aiming to land with the knee close to the mat, and simultaneously connect the head to the mat to stop the forward momentum.
- Keep the elbow in to drive through as part of the pass.
- Use the shoulder, hand, knee, and head as points of contact to stop the forward motion, similar to a parachute.
- Grab the opponent's knee with one hand and prepare the other hand for an underhook.
- Secure the tricep, pass the leg through, and back up to establish a deep cross face with shoulder pressure.
- Switch the hips, place the knee against the opponent's hip, replace the knee with the hand, get on the toes, and square up to finalize the pass.
This technique is effective when coming up from a sweep or at the start of a match. It works whether the opponent is sitting up or lying down, allowing for a quick transition to secure the underhook and pass the guard.
