About this video
Transitioning from an ankle pick to an armbar when the opponent posts to prevent the sweep:
- Start with the same setup as before, getting underneath the opponent and extending to create space.
- When the opponent posts to prevent being swept, take advantage of their position by grabbing their arm as if in No-Gi, without setting up a spider guard grip.
- Shove the opponent's arm to the ground to prevent them from standing back up.
- Post the arm to the ground and move your hips closer to the opponent's face.
- Bring your shin over their face, grab the arm, and go to your knees, turning to the side.
- From this position, you can establish the same omoplata grip, squeezing your legs together and extending to secure the armbar.
- If the opponent has a grip, push their arm hard to break it and lock your arm to prevent them from retracting it.
- Scoop your hips up, using your foot and hand to post if necessary, and bring your shin across the opponent's face.
- Bring your foot in to start squeezing your legs together and grab the arm closer to you.
- Drop onto your shoulder, secure the omoplata grip to prevent the opponent from rotating their hand or arm, pinch your knees, and pull to finish the armbar.
