About this video
Addressing the issue of the underhook during a knee slice pass is crucial. To counteract an opponent's underhook:
- As the opponent secures the underhook, immediately step back to prevent them from using it effectively. Use your hand to push their shoulder down to keep them flat on their back.
- Locate the opponent's elbow with your arm and clamp it down with your ribs to neutralize their ability to use the underhook.
- Reach back along the opponent's leg and secure a pistol grip on their pants, with your thumb inside the material, locking your arm over their elbow.
- Drive your shoulder into the opponent's sternum to apply pressure and keep them flat. If they try to speak and their voice is affected, the pressure is correctly applied.
- While maintaining shoulder pressure, grab the opponent's tricep and slide your knee through as previously demonstrated, keeping your elbow tight to your body.
- Back up slightly, secure a cross face, and apply shoulder pressure. Bring your knee to the opponent's hip, then remove the head grip, place your hand on the mat, and transition to side control.
- Ensure your weight is distributed on your heel and toes to maintain the correct position and prevent the opponent from securing a deep underhook.
- Keep your movements tight and controlled, preventing the opponent from moving and securing grips. If necessary, adjust your grip on their pants to ensure a tight hold.
- As you transition to side control, maintain the grip on the opponent's pants and clamp down, ensuring a tight and controlled pass.
