About this video
Executing a triangle choke from the crucifix position:
- Start with your opponent in the crucifix, controlling their arm with your legs and holding their hand back by the palm and pinkies.
- Keep your elbow out to the side to keep their arm floating, which will help in setting up a kimura later.
- As you attempt a rear naked choke (RNC) and your opponent defends by bridging backwards, use this moment to hip escape and create space.
- Push your opponent's head and slide your calf underneath their neck to initiate the triangle choke setup.
- Instead of placing the top leg over, trap the neck with your calf and cross the bottom leg over the top leg.
- Pull the opponent's head towards your hamstring to tighten the choke.
- Cross your feet and apply a small squeeze for the submission, being mindful of your partner's safety.
- If the triangle choke doesn't finish the fight, you can transition back to attacking with a kimura or wrist lock while maintaining the triangle.
- Use the triangle as a control position to set up additional submissions.
This technique demonstrates the versatility of the triangle choke and its effectiveness from the crucifix position, offering a strong submission option and the ability to transition to other attacks.
