About this video

The ABC of the cross body, side mount position focuses on maintaining pressure while transitioning between Attack, Block, and Circle to control the opponent and prevent their escape.

  1. Start in an attack shape to prevent the bottom player from executing a hip escape.
  2. Transition to block by moving one hand at a time, ensuring no space is left for the opponent to move.
  3. Point the shoulder down to maximize pressure on the opponent.
  4. When ready to circle, slide the hand out while keeping the shoulder close to the opponent's face, and dump the ribs to the side of their face to maintain direction of their gaze and control.
  5. Anticipate the opponent's reaction to the circling movement and prepare to counter their defense.
  6. Ensure the bottom player keeps their hands up near their face to deflect top player's weight and prevent submissions.
  7. When circling over the opponent's head, the top player should aim to make the bottom player make a mistake, setting up for future attacks.
  8. Keep the hips shifted and body heavy on the opponent's bottom arm to limit their movement and set up for attacks such as Americana, Kimura, or Armbars.
  9. Continue to apply pressure and move side to side, causing the opponent's defense to slip, allowing for isolation and attack opportunities.
  10. Organize your Jiu-Jitsu to be more efficient and conserve energy, focusing on making the opponent carry the workload.

Understanding and applying the ABCs of the cross body position helps in maintaining control, conserving energy, and setting up submissions effectively.
