About this video
Applying the Capizzi Lock (C-Lock) during an underhook smash pass can be countered by a back step, a technique developed by Alex Collazo. This counter involves back stepping to block the knee, preventing pressure on the leg and avoiding submission. To recycle the attack when countered:
- Drive the opponent's hips down to prevent being flattened out completely, which would lead to a knee slice pass.
- Use the scorpion or lockdown to pull the opponent's heel towards their butt, setting up the grip on their leg.
- When the opponent falls back or pushes the knee out to counter, shield against them and re-roll hip to hip, similar to a berimbolo.
- Ensure the proper angle by being able to see the opponent's face, which indicates you can reapply the C-Lock.
- Connect your toes to your knee and extend your leg to secure the submission.
To defend against the C-Lock when it's being applied:
- Keep your leg trapped and your knee to the floor to prevent being flattened.
- Pass your hook underneath the opponent's ankle and curl your feet to relieve pressure on your shoulders.
- Extend your legs and pinch them together, then bring your heel to your butt to raise your upper body.
- When the opponent back steps, push the knee out to turn the move against them.
- Shield and re-roll the opponent, using winding techniques to regain control and reapply the submission.
Recycling the move is crucial to maintain control and prevent the opponent from achieving a dominant top half guard position.
