About this video

Executing a one-handed rear naked choke from the crucifix position:

  1. Start with an inside hook controlling the opponent's arm and clamp down on their shoulder.
  2. Shrimp in to get your chin to the opponent's shoulder, docking it in place.
  3. Use your shoulder to drive the opponent's head forward, creating an opening for the choke.
  4. Most opponents will defend by tucking their chin, but the choke can be finished with their neck sideways.
  5. There's no need to pass your hand behind the back or remove the one-on-one control.
  6. Ensure a snug fit to limit the opponent's movement.
  7. Place your hand on the side of their neck and slide through with a flat hand grip, similar to a guillotine.
  8. Pull your wrist into their neck to apply the choke.
  9. Keep your chin docked to maintain control and make it difficult for the opponent.
  10. If the opponent defends against the C-lock by keeping their arm tight to their side, initiate the choke.
  11. When the opponent moves to defend the choke, it may open opportunities to transition back to the C-lock.
  12. Always prioritize the choke but maintain the one-on-one control for follow-up techniques if the opponent escapes.
  13. Practice is key, as many submissions, including the rear naked choke, can be effective with one hand.
  14. Control the opponent's hand by turning it backward to prevent them from flexing muscles and being strong.
  15. Fit in snugly, hand goes across the neck, and drive into the neck to secure the choke.
