About this video
This technique involves a short arm lock from the wizard position in the closed guard. Here's how to execute it:
- Start in the wizard position, using the same elbow control with your hand to isolate the opponent's elbow joint.
- Perform a hip escape to create the necessary distance for the next steps.
- Use a grip on the opponent's neck to break down their posture and prevent them from coming into you. This grip also serves as a good defense against the Sao Paulo pass.
- Track the opponent's arm until you reach their elbow. Use your foot on their body or hip to shrimp out and create the right distance to trap their wrist with your armpit.
- Once you've trapped the wrist, rotate the opponent's elbow and apply pressure with your leg. Keep the grip on their neck if possible and extend your hips for a tight arm bar.
- The arm bar is difficult for the opponent to escape from and puts a lot of torque on their elbow joint. If they try to posture up or scramble out, you can maintain control by keeping the grip on their neck and extending your hips.
- If the opponent tries to come into you, it will only extend their arm more, increasing the effectiveness of the arm bar.
- You can also grab the fabric of their gi for extra control of the arm. Be sure to apply the technique slowly and gently, as it puts a lot of pressure on the elbow.
Remember to practice this technique slowly and gently with your sparring partners to avoid injury.
