About this video

Countering a double leg takedown using a scissoring motion on the shoulder:

  1. When your opponent attempts a double leg takedown and gets their hands behind your knees, it's too late to scramble. Instead of accepting the sweep or going for a guillotine, use a scissoring motion and push on their head to break them down.
  2. As your opponent goes for the double leg takedown, push their head away to prevent them from centering into you. As they take you down, use their momentum to transition into a sweep.
  3. Once you're down, immediately pose your elbow and hand and bump into mount or knee on belly, then transition to side control.
  4. It's important to use your opponent's momentum during the takedown. Instead of trying to stop the takedown, transfer all that energy into the counter. Roll with the force they're applying to the takedown and use it in your favor to end up on top.
