About this video

This technique involves taking advantage of your opponent's reactions to execute a cross collar choke from the bottom position.

  1. Start by breaking your opponent's posture in the same manner as before. Often, their first reaction will be to muscle back up into your guard.
  2. Use their momentum and perform a scissoring movement on their shoulder to bring them all the way across to the other side.
  3. Ensure you have a deep grip on their collar. This grip will be used to finish with a cross choke from the bottom.
  4. When your opponent reacts by coming across, be one step ahead and use both of your grips and the scissoring movement of your legs to bring them all the way across to the other side.
  5. As they muscle up, scissor and bring them all the way across. Adjust to get heavy on their shoulder and keep your other foot or hook close to their hip for a good feel. You can even rest on the hip flexor between their thigh and hip.
  6. Your free hand should search for the crease on their collar or come down cross-facing until you get to the crease and have a good grip. The cross collar grip should be so deep on their neck that the second you squeeze, they tap out from the choke.
  7. Bring both of your elbows together towards your hip. Get close to your opponent and bring your elbows to your hips, squeeze with your knees and get close. This position makes it hard for your opponent to posture up.
  8. If your opponent tries to stand, you can still maintain control. Worst case scenario, you can finish from the mounted position.
