About this video
This technique is a counter to an opponent grabbing your leg from the bottom position, leading to a 6 point sweep. Here's how to execute it:
- When your opponent grabs your leg, use your knees to squeeze them and use your hand to push their head down. This prevents them from regaining their posture.
- Apply pressure on their shoulder by squeezing your knees together, one knee on their chest and the other on their back.
- Post your elbow and hand on the floor. If you're at an awkward angle, extend your torso until it's easy to post your elbow and hand.
- Use your posted hand for basing and thrust your hips forward. Avoid the common mistake of trying to jump over your opponent's back or pulling your knee from under them, as this can lead to them slamming you back on the ground.
- Instead, perform a thrusting movement forward to execute the sweep. This can also be done from a double leg position or when your opponent is trying to pass your guard.
- Remember, the key is to pivot on your knee, not pull it from under your opponent. Maintain pressure on their chest with your knee and pivot on it to avoid being taken down.
- Keep the pressure on your opponent's shoulder and thrust your hips forward until you get to the mount.
